Charitable Work

Dacorum Sports Trust (DST) was established in April 2004 and managed the sports services previously provided by Dacorum Borough Council until March 2018. The Trust continues to run Little Hay Golf Complex, built the iconic extreme sports centre XC in 2011 and opened Our Gym in Hemel Hempstead in 2017.

The Trust is a Company Limited by Guarantee (Company Number 4868497) and a Registered Charity (Charity Number 1103980).  The Trust is a non-profit organisation which means any money generated is put back into improving the provision and services on offer to local people.

The Trust has hosted many charitable, local and international events, some of which are listed below:

We initiated the first ever Dacorum Sports Awards in 2004 and it became an annual event that gave a little something back to all of the unsung heroes in our local sporting world. With individual, team and club awards up for grabs, there were categories that ensured we got some wonderful stories, inspirational athletes and dedicated volunteers being thanked on an evening looking back at all the achievements of the past year and the future stars of tomorrow!

Herts Learning Disability Games

Again, initiated by the Sports Development team of Dacorum Sports Trust, this annual event brought together teams and individuals of adults with learning disabilities from across the county to take part and compete in a number of different sports and activities throughout the day. Having started in 2012 to join the celebrations of the London 2012 Paralympic closing ceremony the event went from strength to strength

The Trust provided assistance and free access to our leisure facilities to assist local athletes to achieve their full potential, helping them reach the next step in their sporting careers. Upon our departure from the sports centres, we were supporting just under 30 athletes in a variety of sports who are competing at different levels and all around the world!

Dacorum Sports Trust initiated the first-ever Hemel Triathlon, attracting both experienced athletes and those completely new to the sport.

The Trust have supported the This Girl Can initiative, a celebration of active women (aged 16 years+) who fancy giving it a go, no matter how good you are, how fit you are or how you look.

The Biggest Loser

The Biggest Loser

A highly successful initiative devised by Dacorum Sports Trust and The Hospice of St. Francis, resulting in over £150,000 being raised. This annual weight loss challenge inspiring healthier lifestyles and raising funds for the local hospice has taken place for the last 6 years.  It is a sponsored competition that sees participants lose weight and adopt healthier lifestyles, something which is life-changing for those individuals but also raises substantial funds for the hospice.  The Trust team supports the participants by offering 12 weeks gym membership with personal training, nutritional plans and plenty of motivation thrown in.

Spinathon and Zumbathon events have also taken place on many occasions raising money for charities such as GOSH, Dens and other local charities.

The Trust will continue its charitable work in the future working with local communities, businesses and sport & fitness organisations, watch this space!
